Single Day Adventure to the Coast

8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Spend the day in the mountains above Monterey Bay searching through native habitats for interesting creatures of the coast. Join us and learn about our beautiful region we call home. Pick up at 8:30 am and drop off at 3:30 pm at the Cesar Chavez Library. Bring a lunch, a bottle of water, a jacket, and sunscreen. Brought to you by the Salinas Public Library and the Ventana Wildlife Society. This program is free for students that receive free or reduced lunch. For ages 8-12.

Crime Lab Chemistry for Kids

Someone stole Lucy the dinosaur from The Field Museum in Chicago! Help us find her! The thief left this note: If you want to get your dinosaur back, you need to pay me one million chocolate bars!

Crime Lab Chemistry: Solving Mysteries with Chromatography. Children detectives will use paper chromatography to investigate pigment separation and separation of mixtures to solve the mystery of who stole Lucy the dinosaur from The Field Museum in Chicago (This is a fictional investigation).

For ages 6-12. No registration required.

 
Raising a Reader Enrollment

For ages 0-6 years. Free family enrollment event for Raising a Reader, the new family friendly digital program. Attending an orientation, registering, and having a valid email are all required to participate in this program. This program will help supplement your child's summer reading with a FREE weekly magazine and weekly literacy tips for parents.

 
Family Guitar Lessons

8 Week Sessions
Saturdays, 10am - 11am

The John Steinbeck Library offers free guitar lessons for the family! The library partners with the Guitars Not Guns program to offer families, with a child between the ages 8-18 years old, a free guitar and lessons. The session lasts for 8 weeks. Space is limited. Sign up today!

 
Free Reading Tutoring

April 10-14
Grades K-4
Cesar Chavez Library

Your child in K-4th grade is welcome to get reading support over Spring Break with a reading tutor at the library. The child can attend daily or a single time. We can listen to your child read and provide support, or work on foundational reading skills. We are here to help!
