The Toy Lending Collection includes 1,024 Toys – puzzles, games, educational, imaginative and active play toys. This collection is available at the John Steinbeck Library (same hours as the library).
Patrons wishing to access the Toy Lending Collection must check-in at the information desk. They will be escorted down to the TLC, and assisted by a staff member in selecting the perfect toy for their child. Toys must be checked out on an Adult’s Library card (3 toys per child).
The collection was developed originally by teachers at the Sherwood Adult School Parent Center, working with children, to assist them in building their basic learning skills, including small motor skills and hand-eye coordination. In 2009, the collection became available due to budget cuts by the State Department of Education, which required the elimination of certain programs. At that time, the Salinas Public Library and Sherwood agreed to transfer the toy collection to the John Steinbeck Library where they could be enjoyed by everyone.
