The Digital Arts Lab
is YOUR place for digital art creation, information and inspiration.
There are two Digital Arts Labs. The first is located at the John Steinbeck Library
and the second at the Cesar Chavez Library
. Each lab offers powerful Apple computers with software for creating music, video, graphics, photos, websites and more. There are resources to check out for digital art beginners, experts and everyone in between.
On November 11, 2007, Elizabeth Martinez (the Salinas Public Library Director at that time) introduced the idea of a Digital Arts Lab to the Salinas City Council. Her idea became reality due to financial support from the Rally Salinas Fund. The Irvine Foundation also donated $25,000 to purchase computers and equipment for the first lab located at the John Steinbeck Library. The second lab, located at the Cesar Chavez Library, was made possible when Salinas Public Library won $10,000 for taking first place in the statewide Fast Internet Matters video contest.
