Can you dance to the "De Colores"? If you can't, Jose-Luis Orozco will surely show you how.

Working his typical magic with a familiar crowd, Orozco wooed more than 300 children and adults to their feet at the Cesar Chavez Library last Saturday, April 13th, in a concert where he performed many of his popular hits. Orozco also led a parent workshop on the role music plays in a child's development before performing. Orozco's son, Pablo Orozco-Castro, who is a musician and counselor in Watsonville, joined him for the last few songs on stage.

"We are proud to offer family-friendly events like these that bring hundreds of community members together to enjoy literacy and learning through music, " said Ernesto Lizaola, Community Education Manager.

"I'm also a child at heart," one grandmother said, as she sang the lyrics to the song "Mi Burrito" and danced. Orozco's music promotes Latin American culture, and includes a catalog of 15 CDs, as well as 3 award-winning songbooks.

This program was funded through a grant from the California State Library Literacy Services, and more than 165 books were given away to help families build home libraries. For more information about this program, please contact Cathy Andrews, Senior Librarian at (831) 758-7915.
